In the early 1990s, the design collective "groovisions" gained attention for their stage visuals for the band Pizzicato Five and their popular character "Chappie." They became a sensation with their interchangeable character design. Over the years, they have worked on art direction for various musicians' CD packages, music videos, and numerous corporate projects. They are considered pioneers of "flat design" and continue to have a significant influence.
Having originated in Kyoto and expanded to Tokyo 20 years ago, groovisions is celebrating their anniversary with an exhibition titled "GROOVISIONS 5×27" at Spiral Garden in Aoyama, Tokyo, from January 6th to 15th. The exhibition features new video works presented on a large display measuring 13 meters in length with a 5:27 aspect ratio. It also includes displays of archive works and a limited-time pop-up shop featuring their own select shop called "Mimiya," which opened in Kyoto. Visitors can fully immerse themselves in the world of groovisions at this exhibition.
